JUDI EVANS
I reside in Kennesaw, Georgia, and have been a member of The Booth Western Art Museum for about 15 years.
Always in love with art and practicing drawing horses every chance I got, I painted tightly realistic horse and dog portrait commissions for many years, which hang in numerous private collections. I studied Graphic & Advertising Design and Art History in college and am now retired as Art Director and Creative Director at Atlanta-area advertising agencies and design studios.
Vision challenges shifted my style to a more joyfully expressive loose accuracy through disrupted realism, which I am continuing to explore with bolder use of texture, pigment, and line. My work layers my "Must-have" elements, including heavy texture ("Textra"), energy in and around the subject ("AIRnergy"), emotion, and linework that evoke imaginative, intuitive, and unexpected outcomes.
My instructors include Kimberly Kelly Santini, Ardith Goodwin, and Elin Thomas (Pendleton). I also played in several workshops at The Booth with artists such as Donna Howell Sickles, Carrie Fell, Krystii Melaine, Nelson Boren, and Ron Riddick. My pieces use acrylic and mixed media on canvas, panel, and paper. Subjects are usually figurative and, more often than not, equine, which I count as self-portraiture due to my life-long connection.
I am grateful to be curious, to be able to explore, and to find new ways of sharing my co-creative spirit.
